    Live Duck Hunt

Got to the spot I wanted. On a point kinda marshy plenty of cover nearby. Lots of hunters though so might be a wasted morning. We shall see though. A half mile walk through an unfamiliar swamp in the dark was not fun lol.

Group of 8 came down but too far out. Was pretty sure it was too deep to Wade for retrieval.

Here was the final results: 1 pintail hen, 1 mallard hen, and 1 mallard drake. I think there's about 15 empties maybe more in my bag. There were a ton of birds, but they were shy as all get out. All my good shooting opportunities were from not calling to birds.

Last night I scoped a spot on Google Earth and put the position in my GPS. Then at 5am this morning I started my walk in. Walking through hip deep flooded timber carrying a dozen deeks, a shotgun, and a gear bag without tripping or sliding was tons of fun. I had roughly a half mile hike. I didn't have a boat, and I didn't have a dog. So I tried to limit my shots to birds I knew would drop to where I could wade out and retrieve them. One got away, but seemed fairly unharmed in that he hauled butt with his head up for a long ways. Another hit the water dead too far out, but another nearby hunter came over and sent his dog for my down bird. Nice guy. I should have limited out, but I didn't have on a facemask and had several groups flare just out of range. I also missed 2-3 shots that I knew I should have had. Other than that I was happy with my setup. I felt a sense of accomplishment for setting out with nothing but a gps position and making something happen with it. The hunter who helped with his dog said "You walked in?!? That's a long f'n walk!"... telling me buddy lol. I think I'm definitely in the market for a small kayak. It would have made that trip about 5 minutes each way and been a breeze. Anyone want to donate one? lol
