Just a general question about hog attracting scents.

    Do they work at all?

not any better than corn IMO....... over the years I have tried a bunch of 'em and always go back to plain old corn.

I heard the ones that smell like corn do...I don't have any hard proof though other than tracks and root marks every time I put some out.

I have had some really hard tests on www.inheatscents.net products. I am a really big fan of the sow in heat scent as it does work . I have trapped numerous hogs with the sow in heat and a dripper coming off a trail no corn. I have also tested the grim reaper scent from them and they love the stuff and will keep coming back for more

What works best, if you have the time, is take a 5gallon bucket and fill it 1/2 full with corn. Here is where you can freestyle. Take a 3litre of mountain dew (or a 12 pack of natural light or some undesireable adult beverage) and pour it in. Then add a 2.19 jar of maple syrup and mix it all up. Let it sit for 48-72 hours. Take it out to your spot you want to bait and then using a rake and a shovel, dig down about 3-4 inches in a 4x4 ft square and pour in the corn. Once you have poured it in you can cover it up with the dirt that you dug out. You will have hogs on it for days, so get ready to hunt it. Good luck and feel free to change the recipe up as you see fit.

You can also try a couple packages of cherry or strawberry Jello gelatin powder. Spread it out with the corn. Easy, cheap and as effective as the expensive stuff!
