Cutting open a propane tank, need some help!!!

I've cut and welded on a lot of gas tanks and propane bottles in the last forty years. Water is usually safe but it can form pockets of air and gas fumes. For the last thirty years I have used the exhaust from my truck (gas or diesel) to purge the tanks. If you run the exhaust through the tank until it is warm to the touch (not hot) you should be fine. I've seen more than one person suffer personal injury cutting tanks so be careful.
