    SmartPhone 101

So I learned something interesting about smart phones today. I'm an avid iPhone user, and my girlfriend just got the new BB Bold 9700. Well quite by accident I'm listening to a podcast and make an odd discovery.

If you have a 16gb iPhone/Touch you can put roughly 14gb of apps on it if you so wished. That would be excessive, but you could do it. I have 580mb of apps. Now there is the Droid "does" commercials. Well here's a hitch, you know what droid doesn't do? You can't load over 250mb of apps. For some people this will never ever be an issue, but its a shortfall this is hilarious. From initial research looks like BB's are the same way, 250mb available for apps.

For some people 250mb is 200 more than they will ever need. But I did housecleaning on my iPhone and I'm still over 500mb. The big culprits are shooter games for the most part, but it prompted me to see how much space on average my apps take. Some of my big name games are 150-200mb. Most of my bank, weather, chatting apps are about 2-3mb. Brickbreaker type games run from 10-30mb. It also means you can never have an offline gps app for droid, it doesn't have enough memory to hold the 1.2gb map data.

Anyway just a piece of random gadget trivia.
