    What camera to buy

Looking to get my wife a digital camera for Christmas and I have really no experience with anything that's decent. I'm looking to spend around $500 so let me know what you would pick and why. Also is there a electronic store that has better prices overall than others? Thanks

I really like the Canon S-series 1 through I think 10 now, IS. Image stabilized. Great camera with good zoom, video, and won't break the bank. Several of us had the original S-1 IS here and I've still got mine. Been wanting to upgrade for several years now.

If you are not in the market for a DSL, I would highly recommend the Canon SX10IS or the newer SX20IS. The SX20IS goes up to 12 megapixels and will shoot video in HD. I bought the SX10IS and have been very impressed.

I have a Canon in the IS line, the IS-3 and am really happy with it for what it is, good zoom, takes decent video as well..... pretty clear pics too!!!!

Here are a few examples, nothing done to the pic's other than a little crop.... Camera was in auto for all pics...

These deer pic's were taken between 80-100yds....

I really like my canon IS, bought it used from a guy on here and for a couple hundred it has been a great camera!!!!

The camera does a good job for a $200-300 P&S camera!!!
