I was hunting yesterday evening on our place just north of Liberty Hill. The stand I was in is about 450 yds. from the San Gabriel river in a corner of a 57 acre coastal field. I had two little bucks, a medium size eight and about 12 does feeding around me. It was a beautiful, calm, cold and still evening. Right at sunset I heard a blood curtling scream from the direction of the river. All the deer jerked their heads up and looked that direction. I looked as well but saw nothing. A few seconds later the screaming started again but more of it. I looked back toward the river and could see a red glow across the river. I thought some ones house was on fire. Suddenly flames shot up real high and the fire broadened a bunch. The screaming stopped suddenly.
When I picked up my B-i-L from his stand which was about 400 yds. further fom the river, he asked about the screams. I couldn't believe he could hear them as well. I told him there was a house fire across the river.
That night on the news they said a man had burned to death in his mobile home on C.R. 214 and he was wheel chair bound. We hear a lot of strange sounds fron over there but nothing like this. I kind of feel sorry for the guy even though the news said the house had reports of drug manufacture at it. It's just not a good way to go.
