Looking at the Ameristep Doghouse blind

Wanted to get a pop up blind to try out. Never had one before but wanted to Turkey hunt out of one. I priced the Ameristep Doghouse at $99.99 and the Ameristep Brickhouse at $179.99 at Basspro. Might go pick one up Tom. What do yall think?

Brickhouse is waaaaaaaaaay better! Doghouse is a little small and lots of windflap.

I think the brickhouse is what Glenn and I use on our place. The work great in my opinion.

Someone on here had an Ameristep that turned pink after it sat out in the sun for a while. You may want to search the site if it did not occur before the big "Crash".

It really depends on the Doghouse model you get. If it's the regular model with no floor, it is indeed to small. The Doghouse TSC model has plenty of room and a zippered floor in it. It is larger that many blinds at 68" square and 68" tall. I had both and gave the regular model away but have used the TSC model for several years. I really like it. Also I have left it out all season and have had no fading at all. I think some of the new materials they are using will suffer from fading.

I've been using the doghouse for the past 2 seasons and it's been left out from Sept-Feb for the past two years with minimal fading. IMHO it's too small for just about any scenario. If you are OK with a 30° shot window and field of view, and have a small ATA bow it should work fine. I haven't been able to get to a place where I can easily shoot out of more than one window though. I just bought another blind from sportmansguide that is large enough for me to get a shot from just about any of the windows and I really like the layout of the blind. Though I can't yet attest to it's durability when left out, I would already say it's definately worth the money!

Thanks for the info. I will prob. get the brickhouse then. Don't have a lease right now so it won't be out more than a weekend so fading won't be an issue. Will look at gander too but I have some gift cert. from basspro burning a hole in my pocket from Christmas and my birthday in April.

Eric, I own five of the Ameristep Brickhouse pop-ups and they work great, I have used there customer service on two occasions and have awesome service reguarding broken rods and spare netting...good company to do business with..my oldest one is around five-six years old now and it is not faded to bad and still works just fine..

I have a TSC Penthouse that has PLENTY of room for two, 3 might get a little crowded. Mine has faded to a pretty dark pink camo color. Deer don't care.

Basspro was out of the Brickhouse now but had 2 of the Doghouse TSC Reversible blinds left so i grabbed one of those. Should be ok they are bigger than the regular Doghouse. Put it up in the living room and my 5 year old daughter and her friend is watching Barbie Fairytopia out of the front of it. I am sur that is what Ameristep had in mind when they designed it. LOL If I ever get them out I will see if I can put it back in the bag. Heard it can be tricky.

First they turn dark purple...then bright pink.
