    standing rain water problem

behind my house (and behind my property) right at the fence line there is
a area that traps rainwater, approx 200ft long x 20 to 60ft wide that holds a couple inches of water after heavy rains. the land behind it is un-developed
and i have been pondering the idea of rigging up some type of pump and pumping across the high spot behind it in the woods(approx 400ft away.)
i am soliciting ideas to get rid of this water. I have been thinking about getting the county involved , I hear the landowners are 2 doctors that dont care what is done there as long as it dont cost them a penny.
building up the property is not a option i dont think.
I have full plans of contacting them, but in the meantime im gonna get rid of some mosquito breeding grounds.

once i did put a boat bilge pump in 1000 gph and connected a couple water hoses to it and pumped it across my yard to the drainage in the front.
thats not a option anymore. i want something i can leave there for a couple months at a time, so having a 12v back there is not really very handy.
im looking for 110v cheap ideas. thanks, alan

    Short Trem.
They sell tablets that you can throw in there to kill the larva. Try Home Depot, Lowes Etc.

But contacting the city/county etc. is a good Idea.

last year i heard dishwashing soap worked, i dont think it worked but i did have
a lot of funny looking foam and bubbles in the pasture.

make a canal/trench about a foot wide and 6 inches deep at the side that could drain off the best (best slope). Problem solved.

sounds good but the water is at my property line not on my property.

motor oil works well for killing mosquitos as well.

uhh, don't call me a hippee tree hugger, BUT, one quart of motor oil can contaminat thousands of gallons of water, not to metion it might kill his yard or damage the Dr's property.

Put a bunch of black mollies in it. They will eat the larva and reproduce like crazy. When it dries, they will die of course but you will be out what, $5?

I was unsure if he is wanting to get rid of the mosquitoes or the water. Mollies are a good idea, ducks are also h$ll on larvae.

But the underlining problem is the standing water. i would call the County or dig a trench or get a pump.

Get permission to dig the trench out the 400 feet you mentioned across their property. You can do it with a turning plow in a short time.

One day bobcat rental, next day fine tune it by hand. Done for a long time.
