    I was rustled

Can anyone tell me what I can do other than call the police? I called the police and they took my info and said they would call if someone reported cows out or in their pasture. I know they are not any where else. They were stolen. a man in a maroon van came up to our house Sunday and said he lived down the road and was missing some cows. We do not know this person.
Yesterday we came up missing some cows. There are no torn fences, all young feeder calves 400-600lbs and the bad part is we had no brand on them.
I am so sure they have been run thru the auction already. When i come home I will hunt this individual down. I beleive in the state of texas it is a Hanging offense still!! :} No but it is a felony. Who other than the police can I call or have I just lost out on a lot of money??

I am not home because I work offshore but the wife says it looks like 4. I will find this individual!! Hey dahmer if you are kin to Jeffery dahmer then you could probably show me some good ways to get this/these persons!! Just kiddin. I will deal with this legally on my terms.
Just looking for any info and maybe help in case you see this vehicle come up to your place.
4 calves averaging #500 at todays price is about $2800 plus all I have tied up in them!!
I suppose they just drove right up to the gate and rounded them up. You can shake a bucket of feed and they are your best friends. I guess they must have been keeping an eye on the place to see our schedule. No one is ever home during the day!!

I think the Cattlemans Association helps with rustling incidents.

After the fact, but put a chain and lock on your loading chutes where they can't back a trailer up. No cut fences, seems like they may have backed up to your pens and hauled them off.

I guess no game cameras in your pen area?

Brand the rest of them, keep them current...you pay a brand inspection fee for every head at the auction regardless if they have it or not.

Get it reported, may take a long time if they ever crack the case but has to be someone knowing the timing of no one around so they can move in. If they keep it up, eventually it will catch up with them.

Call Texas Cattle Raisers Assoc. They have detectives that do only this and have a remarkable recovery rate.

go here so you can find the cattlemans association ranger in your area. This is who will get you answers. Tell your neighbor to call as well or set up a meeting with the ranger. They are great folks.

Call the Southwest Texas Cattlemans Association. Hopefully your cows were branded. If so, they will be able to check out local sale barns. They will have records on who sold the cows, where the check was sent to & who bought them... IF they were sold at an auction.

                    Good luck.

No brand will make it hard. Did you buy these without a brand or did your cows birth them?

If you purchased them then check with your neighbor and see if he purchased them. If both did start looking at common links like the auction or person you purchased from.

Not much anyone can do without brands or "eye witness".

Cattleman's would work if you had branded them. FIRST THING FIRST, go your county courthouse and register a brand in your name for all livestock, that way you give the cattleman's range detectives a leg to stand on in recovering your property. If it happens again don't go to the nearest auction barn but one or two over, usally when they steal a trailer load they will do this, one in the trunk of the car yea go check the local one.
