    Hunting Clothes Question??????

You ever notice when your doing something you love to do like hunting and things go bad you spend the extra money for it to not happen again. Well last Saturday I decided to Hunt the Sam Houston NF and do some scouting in the rain. I wore a frogtog jacket (big mistake) while carrying my climber, back pack, and bow about a mile. I get in my stand and I am sweating bad then I started to shiver bad.
What do you guys wear in terms of material and layers when it is raining or cold. I wear wicking tops and bottoms and try a base layer. Do you all wear goretex? What is the best breathable lightweight clothing for hunting?

    Thanks,

    Manwitaplan

I threatening to buy some Cabelas MT050 goretex. Other than the fact that it's expensive there's no other drawback...

That's why I have a large backpack(actually I converted it to a shoulder bag)...clothes can come off or be put on as needed.Wear something light on your way to the stand because you know you will get overheated, then if you get cold later pull a heavier jacket out of the backpack.

          Thanks Buzz,

It seems that I have so mucjht o carry now that itw as just easier to wear all my stuff in. I guess I will do that and pack my big stuff seperately.

The packable goretex rain suits are a great thing to have.Dress light so you don't sweat and add clothes when you get set up.

For your outer layer, Gore Tex can't be beat. It is waterproof and wind proof. For your base layer, do not use cotton use materials use Under Armour or some other type of polypropylene. If I have to hike a long way, I usually just wear my under armour cold gear base layer and layer up after I cool off a little.

                  get you a big girl.....

that way she can pack your stuff in, you can dress light and she can warm you up when your nipples get cold.

really i always wear a light under layer like under armour or off brand and carry my jacket in.

if it is raining get you a cheap poncho. as long as it is not a **** floater you can cut vent holes in the poncho and still stay dry.

I layer. My favorite item is a LL Bean polartec 200 fleece its very wind proof and can take on a lot of water before it gets wet (water resistant)its also very very light. I got it for fly fishing those cold November mornings but now I wear it under Cabala's silent weave uninsulated and that gives me a fall and winter coat for the price of one.

Layers , but the best thing to wear is WOOL , it is silent and water proof, i usually hunt with just my wool shirt on and have a wool vest and jacket on my back pack, even if you get wool wet you will not be cold ,

expensive but worth every penny and will last you a lifetime

Just avoid cotton, it holds moisture near your skin and you will suffer. Any type of synthetic fleece works great. Then an outside wind/ waterproof layer. Just remember to take it off and avoid sweating on the way in. We used this method growing up in Wyoming and it works.

Eliminate anything you don't need to carry, except knife, flagging, and TP, but pack in the heavier jacket. Lightwieght bungee cords could be used to hold it on your climber.

For rain, poncho works because it keeps some air flow so you don't sweat. Goretex, make the investment. The PVC type slicker suits, even though some are extremely thin, I only use when it is cold. I sweat so dang bad in those, I'm as wet as if I would of just got rained on.
