    bow hunting the rut

What are some of your suggestions and tactics for bow hunting the rut. Best times to be out. Use of scents or calling and all that.

What is the best time to rattle horns morning, afternoon or on the night hunt?

I am not hunting over feeders and am hunting off game trails but nit getting the bucks in bow range. Seeing what the TBH brain trust has to say.

So let me hear what works for you guys and gals.

Hand corn one of the game trails where you see a lot of sign. Make sure you bait several days in a row so they can find it, add it to their "check this spot" routine and hunt it hard.

You don't need a feeder and many times, it's better to hunt small chum areas where there is a ton of activity. Focus on the thickest, nastiest brush areas with clearly defined trails, scrapes or droppings.

Get in an hour and a half before sunrise, stay on stand till mid day and ghost out. Get back in around 1:30 - 2:00 pm and hunt the evening till will after sunset. You want to be invisible on your routes in and out (excluding mid-day). If you can sit all day from sunup to sundown, you will be absolutely invisible.

Good luck....thats what I would do.

X2, you will increase you chances if you can hang out at the stand all day. Some of the biggest bucks I have seen in the rut has been midday.

that is what is have been doing. hunting out of a 16ft ladder and brush blinds. i have been rattling in the morning only. been putting out hand corn and oats. seeing lots of doe in bow lanes, no bucks in bow range. only about 200 yrds out

i need more midday hunts. i usually only do the standard morning and evening hunts.

Make sure when you rattle, you have a clear view of all things down wind. They may be inching up from your backside and clearing before you can get a visual.

I've found grunts and doe bleats work very well in tight setups. Just keep the calls down to a very low level and keep your eyes peeled downwind.
