    New bowhunter on a budget

HELP!! I've been hunting with a rifle for the last 27 years, started when I was 7. Over the past year I've become very interested in bow hunting. I've been lurking on this site for a while, this is my first post. I've learned a ton just from reading your posts. I've also become more excited about the prospect of bowhunting. My wife really appreciates ya'll by the way! Around Christmas I'll have a budget of around $400 to get started. Is this possible? Should I go low end new, or higher end used. Any help ya'll can give is much appreciated!

For $350-$400 you should also be able to get a Mathews Legacy... w/ everything on it. Make sure you know what your draw length is so you can shop specifically for that. Like 'crazy cowboy' suggested hit the classifieds on here and you can't go wrong. Good luck, and welcome aboard!

$400 can get you started. I would be looking for a good used bow ready to hunt. Important thing is that it fits you. Get your draw length measured. Welcome to TBH.

Got my PSE Brute combo for 400. The did recommend to change the string after a year which I have done and I also upgraded on my sight and added a drop away rest. As mentioned on the other posts, make sure you are measured for you draw length. Good luck and welcome!

Watch for end of year closeouts on ebay. That is the way I got started. You can get a new bow for that. You can also watch for used bows but I would lean towards the new bow route. You will never stop upgrading once you are infected.

Welcome to the site and enjoy the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the fire. Hang around and make some post and after 30 days and 30 post you can get into the classifieds on this site. There are usually some good deals on used bows in the classifieds.

Thanks for the welcome guys. For those in the Austin area is Archery Country a good place to get started? I work pretty close to their and was thinking about swinging by at lunch one day to get my draw length measured.

I bought my old PSE from a hock shop in 1993 for 200 bucks. It still shoots great and have never had any trouble with it.
I think of it this way, the natives had no technology, any thing you get will be good enough to get you started.

Get measured at Archery Country, but check out KC's out in the Oak Hill area. I think it's on Hwy 71 as opposed to 290. They come HIGHLY recommended, although I have yet to make it out there.

Shop around and don't spend any money hastily. If you wait for the right deal, you will never regret it. If you only have $400 to spend, you have no room for error. I'd get a used bow if I were you, but make sure the bow and accessories are a great deal. Great deals exist.
