    marlin 30-30 problem/HELP!

my dad gave me his 30-30 its in really good condition its probally 35 years old the only problem is the lever wont stay locked in closed position it comes open a little bit does anyone know what i could do to fix it or is it something a gun smith might have to do ...thanks

I'm not sure on the Marlin, as I have a Winchester. But on mine, the lever dropping down , about 1/16th", is the safety. It doesn't drop any more. You have to squeeze the lever to get the gun to fire. Might or might not be that way on your Marlin.

maybe so i thought the only safety was the hammer cocked back about 1/4 pull or so

Yep that's a safety feature. My son has one and you have to squeeze the lever to shoot. Never did like that feature...but as a brush gun it is invaluable to have.

well thats the problem for me my daughter shoots this gun w/ the 125grain 50% less recoil loads and she does not all ways squeeze the lever all the way and it clicks out of position i agree not a real cool feature
