I have a magellan 9 person dome tent that I want to replace. I didn't like the layout of it. With all your hunting supplies and bedding materials we can sleep 3 people in it when we go mule deer hunting. With the rain flap on top when it gets real cold and if we have any moisture it SUCKS! LOL Anyone have any suggestions on a tent somewhere between $100 and $200?

I don't know of anything in your price range, but some of the best tents that I've ever owned were from Cabela's.
I have a 8 man Alsaskan guide tent that I really like. It's one tough tent.
I also have the 6 man Outback lodge that works really well for quick set up and takedown in the summer and fall.
If you are going to be in some potentially bad weather, then I would go with the Alaskan Guide model, or a canvis wall tent.Last edited by Flint knapper; 04-16-2007, 09:15 AM.

I'll second knapper's suggestion. After having several cheapo tents shredded in high winds, I bought one from Cabela's - Alaskan Guide series. It was more than I initially wanted to pay but after using it for several years I think it was worth it. They're very well made and I've camped in some pretty big storms with no problem.

I own a Marmot and my brother owns a North Face. We've used these tents in Alaska, Colorado, Arkansas, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington State, New Mexico & Montana while fly fishing. When buying a tent, do not go cheap if you are camping out in "mountain country." You want a tent designed to keep you dry and will sustain winds up to 50 mph or more. Look for tents with an "aerospace shaped" design. I would suggest a good tent for you to sleep in and a lesser expensive tent for you to store your gear in. You can always water proof your gear in plastic. Tent purchases is something that you do not want to go cheap on.Last edited by ruthunter; 04-16-2007, 01:59 PM.

I also appreciate the input on this thread. I bought a $159 tent from Wally world on closeout for $49. Nice big tent. Not worth a dern in cold weather. 2 sides are open mesh and the rain top does no good for wind. I tried throwing a tarp over it before putting the rain top on, but with any winds, I'm afraid the poles are going to collapse. Need input for a cold weather tent....
