    Deaf Turkey's

Are the turkey's deaf this year or what? Is anybody out there having any luck calling this year? If so could you please spare some advise? It seems that when I have gotten one to answer he is running the other way.

I was hunting this weekend and they seemed pretty henned up to me. We did have some sucess yesterday morning but we had to go to him most of the way before he would commit and come the final 50 yards.

Ain't been worth a flip for me this year. Turkeys were done with it when the season opened I believe!

It's been TOUGH hunting this year...the weather on the weekends sure hasn't helped...we got blown out on Saturday with 20-30 mph winds...the turkey weren't moving or talking much... I was hunting about 100 yards from a perimeter fence Saturday and called one from the next pasture to the fence but couldn't get him to cross it. I've also had gobblers responding to calling but hanging up a hundred yards out...

We "threw the rulebook out" on Sunday. The mantra is not to overcall when a gobbler is coming, but this just isn't working for us...as soon as we have quit caling they have hung up or wandered off...

We worked it Sunday differently and "overcalled" based on conventional wisdom with a purr finished off with a cluck every time they gobbled and got several to respond and come in but just had bad luck...we were still hunting alone and had several approaches from the rear so no shots...

I have to skip next weekend and won't be back till the following weekend but we are going to start tag teaming them to try to keep this from happening again...

Most of my toms are still henned up. All other birds will gobble back but hang up at 100 yards or so. Have had a few come in silent. Even they have hung up. I am not the best caller by far. I just try hard.

I have decided that I am going to start hunting them like Kansas deer. Set up blockers and just push them out. Ha Ha just kidding.
