Does Moving Out Of State Void Your Hunting License?

Ok, there was some discussion about this on another thread, but I'm bringing it up here in hopes that someone will know for sure.

Before we knew we were moving to La., I bought my TX hunting license. Now that we're here, I'm wondering if my license is still good through this season, or if it voided when I got my La. drivers license. I'd like to come back to hunt some, but I'm really hoping I don't have to buy a Non-Res license when I already paid for my super combo, and just moved away a month ago.

    Anyone know for sure?

I am no expert on this but here is my .02

When you bought your license you were a resident of Texas and as such said license should be good until expiration.
There are other states where you have to be a resident x amount of time before you can buy a resident license. I guess it is to keep you from "moving" in when season starts and then moving back home.

Hopefully someone with some true knowledge of this will chime in, maybe Dena can set me straight

sounds logical to me, i wonder if you would even qualify as a resident in your present location.

hopefully we'll get an official ruling soon enough.

I bought the lifetime because it is good even if you move out of state. I would assume since the lifetime is good if you move, the yearly license should be good.

The TPWD Outdoor Annual, on Page 20, defines a RESIDENT as...

"...a person who has lived continuously in Texas for more than six months immediately before applying for a license..."

So long as you have a valid Texas Driver's License with an address that matches the one on your Valid Hunting License, you should be legal.

We run into this situation all the time with college kids wanting to buy a resident hunting license the day before dove season with an out of state driver's license. Their claim is that they have been in school for 6 months, so they think that they are a resident, but the rules are pretty clear.

I would think it would be good for the rest of the season.

You probably don't yet qualify to hold a resident license in Louisiana.

              FOLLOW UP:

I called TPWD today, and a license purchased legally AS a resident is good until it's expiration. So my license is good for this season.

I talked to an Assistant Chief, and he said if this applies to you, make sure you have proof that you lived in Texas when the license was purchased, and for the 6 months prior to purchase.

              GOOD NEWS FOR ME!!!!!!

Friend of mine just came down from Colorado and took some does at our lease last weekend. He has lived there for 4-5 years and is a resident of Colorado.

Applied for the hunting lisence online and they still had his info as being a resident of Texas.

He got his full license at the resident rate.

I say keep your old drivers license.
