Hey guys, I think TMAN should have really stated his real problem... don't think it's really the dogs he worried about, it's the dog owner... first class outlaw hunter that will run his dogs after anything he can eat. He was just trying to get some information about what to tell the land owner with respect to the owner's deer herd being disturbed. The potential "hunter" is a genuine East Texas outlaw, and you guys know of the type I speak. At least you know if you're from East Texas like I am.... You know, "I been huntin' them woods all my life, and my daddy hunted them as did his daddy and ain't no lease or fence gonna change the way we hunt, hell, I gotta feed my family"... If you've ever been around the "Big Thicket" area, you know the line... THAT's what he's really worried about. You guys are mostly right. It's a shame to blame the dogs. They're only as good as their master... guess in order to train good dogs, first you have to be smarter than the dogs.... that's another problem...

I would stick with the same plan. Your not going to argue it out with the land owner and win. It is a loose, loose scenario.

You are going to have to prove that that particular handler or those particular dogs are going to run anything they can catch.

Bottom line.......... Proof is in the pudding.

By the way, lets call a spade a spade.......

If this fella is the outlaw you say he is, he is a POACHER not a hunter no matter what his method.

I understand that you are sticking up for your friend but this quote tells me that the POACHER is not his issue.

Did anyone else find it interesting this thread started the same day as this one did?

I would not have issue with the dogs themselves, but rather with the owner springing it on you after you've leased the hunting rights. As far as I'm concerned if it's not in your contract you should have the right to refuse to agree to the running of dogs. Now most likely you'll have to be ready to pack your things when your contract is up so plan accordingly. Perhaps another option would be to offer to bring in a horde of TBH buddies to stick the hogs with slick tricks to reduce the population.

Yea, probably can't beat the landowner out of his own idea of hunting. We ran Walker hounds and Beagles all my life for deer & rabbits.........but they would not run coon's!!! Sounds like your issue is NOT with the dogs. Good luck.

Great idea...he would lose his lease for sure, then he wouldn't have to worry about it anymore
