I am 31 now and I have been hunting for 10 or 11 yrs now and am, of course, addicted. I very rarely get to meet hunters that were not introduced to this great sport at young ages by dad's or granddads. My first hunt was kind of a 21st B-day present. Anyone else start late in life? How did you get introduced?

Started bird hunting young. Was a bird dog from 3 to 8 years of age. Went on my first deer hunt about 7 or 8 years ago. I hunted a lot of coyotes from a younger age. Just self taught myself to deer hunt my dad didn't hunt deer or any uncles. We lived out in the mojave desert area so a lot of quail, dove and chukar hunting. Got into jeeping and on one particular trail I used to see mule deer almost every trip. After a couple of years of this I decide to put in for a tag. Got drawn and got a 4x4 on opening day. It's been since that day that deer hunting was my favorite type of hunting.

My "uncle" got me into hunting. He's been a family friend for a long time and always asked if I'd like to go. I shot my first animal at 15, a black bear. Since then, I've taught myself everything. I've read it all, shot for hours and bought all my own equipment. Before that, I'd hunted prairie dogs and squirrels, but that bear hunt is what fueled my obsession and since then I can't be in the woods enough!

I didn't start hunting until I was 35 in 2005. I couldn't afford it before then and had always heard horror stories about hunting on public land. So in 2005 I was fortunate enough to be invited to go hunting in Carrizo Springs by a company I did business with. The man I dealt with on a daily basis took me out for my first time and I shot a doe and a buck in the first sitting. It was awesome and I'll never forget. Thank you Mr. Givens. I've been hooked ever since and I've learned that even though it is an expensive hobby I can find the money somewhere somehow to get out there.

I'm currently 37 and have never been on a Deer hunt.
Just bought my first bow last week and if things go as planned, I should be getting my first opportunity at a Doe this coming January.
If not...I'm planning on signing up for a public hunt next bow season and possibly looking into a lease as well.
I'm a fisherman by heart and love being outdoors, figured it was time for a little change of pace.

Your guys wernt old , I amIm 48 and just started with a rifle last year. But they stuck me in a place where I didnt see any deer. Been fishing forever , and bowfishing a while , but I am hoping to shoot a deer w/ a trad. bow this year. Gonna try at thanksgiving & have a with a fellow TBHer in Dec. . I started shooting guns at about 13 , but when we would go in the field we were just looking for anything to shoot, and Im sure all deer had vacated the premises way before we ever got close to them.
But better late than never, I suppose.

I hunted twice in college, as a bowhunter. I have never really hunted with a gun, except as a guide. The second trip I went with my dad, and that ended in what we now refer to as the "unfortunate chainsaw event" for me. Then I did not hunt again until 5 years ago, when I was 35.
My dad hunted when I was a kid to put food on the table, and kept with it. I was always happy for him, and then my sister (Dusty Britches) and I took it up with our bows. She taught me some, and I learned the rest on my own. I have been hunting AMAP since. Deer and hogs, and an occasional rabbit with my bow.
