    New Mathews Bows

Who has shot one of the new bows so far, and if so, how did you like it? If you have a Mathews, how did it compare to the one you have? I've been so busy at work, have not had time to go Smithfield Archery to check one out.

Does Smithfield have them right now?

I shot the Z7 yesterday...It shot awesome, but drew like crap imo....I shoot a switchback so that could bias me just a bit...

I have a moster and I love it. The handles are a little big, buit that comes with Mathews. Due to the speed of the bow at 70# I shoot the dangerous game full metal jacket arrows. With the broad head about 600 grains. The speed is down to around 260 fps but the impact is big. I have shot 5 animals this year and none have gone over 30 yards. The bow is fast and I was shooting 340 but the arrow flight was not good. I would rather have a cobination of speed and impact than just the speed, but that is a personal preference.

Yes, Rhonda said they have the Z7 set up and people have been shooting it. Just need to get over and try it out.

I shot one yesterday at Barkley's in Boerne and it shoots really well, no hand shock or vibration at all.

I was able to shoot the Z7 yesterday at Archery Country in Austin. I have the opportunity to shoot just about every bow that Mathews, Hoyt, and Bowtech make. With that being said, Mathews hit a homerun with the Z7. Looks aside, the Z7 is very smooth on the draw cycle (unlike the Monster and Reezen), holds very nicely (the new, slim grip is a welcome change to the Mathews lineup), and was very quiet upon the shot breaking. I did not crono the bow because I think all the new bows are plenty fast. I think speed is the most over emphasized part of bows today, but for those who care, it was very fast

Head on down to Archery Country and shoot it..I think most will really like this bow.

I shot the Z7 today and that thing is a beast. I dont know if its because I worked out last night and my upper body is sore but the bow was set at 66lbs and it was very hard for me to get it back one time (my drenalin is at 69 lbs and I can draw it back easily). However once I got it back the shot was very nice. Absolutely zero hand shock, very quiet and fast! The bow definately balances very well and has a very good feeling, but I dont believe I'll be trading in my Drenalin on it anytime soon.

I hung out at Smithfield all day, I was the first to break in the new Z7. If the Reezen and DXT had an affair, the Z7 would be the red headed illegitimate kid.

                    My opinion....

The draw is super smooth, smoother then my DXT, had a very solid back wall. It does take more to draw then the DXT, but it is very very smooth and consistent, no hump. I shot it for about 30 mins, I kept thinking man this feels more then 70lbs, so I put it on the scale - 75lbs. At 70 lbs, it was perfect.

                    Speed comparison:

                    DXT - 28/70, 4 leeches, loop. 27" A/C/C Pro Hunter - 400.7gr @ 274 FPS
                    Z7 - 28/70, 4 monkey tails, loop. 27" A/C/C Pro Hunter - 400.7gr @ 291 FPS

17 FPS gain, Shoots Smooth, Great Feel.

                    I ordered one

i got to shoot the z7 today during my lunch break. Didn't get to spend as much time with her as i would have liked but imo the bow was very smooth on the draw and didn't jerk back on the let off as bad as others i've pulled back in the past. With the 80 percent let off i could hold the bow back for a while made it very relaxing. another plus i was suprised to find that it comes with alot of little extras (monkey tails, string stop, etc.) bow seemed pretty quiet straight out of the box. I LOVED IT WILL BE TRYING MY HARDEST TO BUY ONE IN THE SPRING. Didn't get a chance to shoot the new monster because there wasn't enough time. I shoot a mathews legacy and i like the way the z7 shoots better. Check em out Sullivans Outfitters in college station has em.
