    Best bow

for a 5 year old to start with?
My son loves to watch me practice and is asking for a bow for Christmas.
Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't know how big your son is but Bear Archery makes a small bow called a Pioneer that goes from 13" of draw length to 26". You can also get the bow in with 30# max limbs, so at a very short draw like 13" the poundage is something like 15#. My two youngest kids both have had Bear Pioneers for several years. ages 10 and 12

There was a project on the trad section or DIY on how to make a bow yourself. It was a longbow and not too hard. It would be a great momento for your son to keep as he grows up and it's his 1st bow.

My six yr old shot his Brave for the first time this last Sunday. I believe the bow will work for him for the next year of so of target shooting.

I ordered the Diamond Nuclear Ice for my son and it was literally delivered just 10 minutes ago. He has been shooting kids longbows for a few years, but this is his first compound.

I ordered from hunters friend which was nice because I was able to substitute the Whisker Biscuit for the Hostage in the package. I was also able to get it in LH where it was not available from other places.

They also test and paper tune it. I had it set up for a 19" draw length and 15#. it is adjustible all the way to 24" draw length and 29#. At his draw length and poundage, the test report says it is shooting 100 fps. At the maximum, the bow is supposed to shoot 200 fps.

Anybody know anything about the Mathews Genesis? They have 'em in pink or camo at Academy for $197. It's a kit that comes w/ arrows and a target. My 7 year old thinks she wants this. I'm considering it...
