I really wanted to see which brand was better or if it even made a difference. I divided my drill and placed half Pennington Rackmaster Deluxe and the other half with Turner Seed Summer Deer Mix. Hopefully mother nature will cooperate with some rain this afternoon and over the next several months I'll keep you posted with the results.

Also this is my fall harvest plot planted last september the quail are sticking pretty close to it right now as the oats, wheat, and rye are making seed, however I'm still hoping the winter peas will make seed.

Looks good CW. FYI I have never had my winter peas make seed. I have had some tremendouos stands of the winter pease before too. Jamie told me why that they don't one year but I don't remember.

Looks good! I hope you didn't make the same mistake I did and seed to light. We used Turner Spring deer mix as well, but I guess we didn't put out enough seed per acre cause the areas we went over twice look a lot better than the ones we didn't I think the hopper we used must have have been set incorrectly. Oh well, they still got plenty of protein pellets to munch on. Good luck with your though. Judging by your fall crop you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks Jason, my father-in-law said he made a heck of crop of winter peas out in Knox City several years back. He said he was going to bail it in about a week, but when he returned they were finished, evidently when there done they are done!

yep when they die they die. They get crisp and brittle. I just plowed mine under yesterdday getting ready to put hay grazer in. I'll put money you get a better stand out of the Turner mix than the pennington. The pennington seed looks old and the turner is really good seed. I am not saying the pennington won't come up. Look at the difference in the Black eyed peas.

Looking at radar you may get your rains this afternoon. Just hope for now hard ground packing rain.

What variety of winter peas do you plant? Do you get a very fast growth rate on those?

Boomerang, they are Austrian variety, they really don't do much over the winter but from March to May they really grow fast. Mark did you have any luck with the turkeys?

Coachwhip when did you get your peas in the ground? I planted mine this year in Sept. Of course i water mine but by christmas they were knee deep. If I hadn't watered they wouldn't have been.

Jason, they were in by October but since it was a food plot blend they were competing with wheat, oats, and rye. Here it what the plot looked like in late November and mid January and then yesterday respectively.
