    COWS and feeders.....need help please!

need some help from the fire guys.....have some cows that keep breaking into my feeder pens and knocking off my feeder timers and tipping my feeders over as well as my protein, not only extremely frustrating but expensive! what should i do? im afraid to run a hot wire and scare the deer?? my honey hole is a tripod hoist feeder so i was thinking of runnin' some barbed wire up the legs and under the timer somehow which will make it a pain to fill..... but not sure what else to do......hope someone has some ideas for me! thanks and happy hunting!

I'd stop the protien until you can put up a cow proof fence. This is the best thing I have found so far.

Solar rechargable hot wire about 3' off the ground around the feeder pen. Deer won't touch it and it will keep the cows out.

if your leasing the land and if they aint your cows i would stay away from blunting the cows. that is someones income and a fast way to find yourself on the other side of the gate not welcomed back.

ive. had great success with the 3 strand barbed wire pen. i strand it at knee, waist and chest. tight as possible so they cant get tempted by pushing it. and large enough so the flung far corn is not close enough for them to lean in and try to reach it.

Cattle or hog panels with t post every 8 feet and wired together well have kept our cows out with no problem.

Get you a slingshot or an airsoft gun. Just enough motivation to get them to move along with endangering the animal

If you have any trees around, get a come-a-long, fence puller, and barbwire............works great. And dont need T-post. You can get the barbwire tight enough to play music on it..........and you can just wire in wood stays in the runs....

I got tired of mine getting tore up too, so I built this pen and haven't had any problems since.

It was a little expensive, but so were the repairs!

                If I remember right, I used 6 16' hog panels and 18 t-posts

Get a round bail feeder and put it around your feeder. Stake it down.

Go with the hog panels. run 1 strip of barb around. the deer have no problem with it. it does keep the cows out

T-posts at each leg with a lot of wiring does it for me.

Cows shouldn't be able to tip your feeder over, even if they get inside the pen. Take a concrete masonry bit and drill a hole through the center of three 2" thick concrete blocks. Put one under each foot and drive an 8" spike through the foot and through the hole in the concrete block. This will keep the feet from walking off the concrete blocks and the blocks from scooting out from under the legs. Next drive a t-post next to each leg going toward the center at about a 30 degree angle. Fasten the legs to the t-posts with large hose camps. All this will anchor the feeder legs and the concrete blocks will keep them from sinking. My preference is not to use feeder pens at all. And I have never had a cow, hog or anything else tip over a feeder done this way.

I had cow problems for a while also. They used to bump the bottom of the feeders with their heads to knock the corn out and make a big pile of it on the ground. I now have the winch type feeders on 14 foot legs. Cows cant reach it and they dont mess with trying to pick up the individual pieces of corn. No pen necessary.
