    Rifle Question

At lunch i went and looked at a Ruger Mark 77 chambered in 308. I really like the feel and looks of the rifle but would like any positive or negative input before i take a plunge.

I would use it mainly Texas WT and one day Elk. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can go wrong with that one. Also, check out a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter or Deluxe. I love my Weatherby Vanguard Sporter in stainless steel.

I have never heard anything bad about mark 77s, and I frequent some gun boards. Not my favorite action, but whatever I am sure my favorite isn't other peoples. Ruger makes a good bolt gun and .308 is a great caliber.

For me personally I don't like Ruger's. Probably me, but something about them causes increased recoil. I shoot my Remington-does not bother me at all. My BIL has a Ruger in the same caliber and it beats the crap out of me. Might be just me. You can't go wrong with the 308 caliber though.

New or used? I'm assuming used... 308 is a great round, easy to buy for, easy to reload. The new Rugers have great triggers, but some of the older ones can be a little heavy with long pulls, soggy bites and overtravel. I assume you've looked at the If you have tested the trigger, and find it satisfactory, then take the plunge... nice rifle.

My experience with 77's has been 50/50 in the accuracy dept. I would go remmy 700 or a savage for something comparable.

I haven't found anything made by Ruger that I don't like.

I'm a Rem 700 man, but my dad is a die hard Ruger fan. I guess I can't blame him, he's shot the same 77 30-06 for about 20 years now and it's an absolute tack driver. I have witnessed him shoot 4 turkeys in the head between 75-100 yards. I really like the new 77 Hawkeyes with the camo synthetic and stainless barrels.

X2 I have owned several and it is 50/50. Only have one left and it is a 270 that shoots very good.

Have multiple M77s. Tack drivers. BIL shoots one in 7mm - also a tack driver. Love them ! Reliable. Look great.

Thanks guys. It's a new rifle so hopefully it has a good trigger pull. It really caught my eye because of it's looks. it's stainless with wood and lots of detail with the woods grain. I know this is not the way to shop but i can't help it on this one. Also, I hunt bow only on my place so this gun will only be used when I get invites to rifle hunts.

Look at the Tikkas in my opinion they are the most accurate factory rifle for under $900 my second choice would be the Sako A7 they both have the same barrel. You can buy a Tikka for around $500 or less.
