DirectTV has way better Dvr's if you were going to get that service. My sister has Dish and loves how much faster and more organized our driectTV dvr is than her dish one. Had directtv without dvr also and never really had a problem. Great HD Quality and tons of HD channels. Dont really have a problem in stormy weather anymore either...(but then again were were in a drought for almost 18 months so i wouldnt remember)

Had Dish for years a charter customer with them, they made me mad so I switched to Direct TVabout three years ago and I'm glad I did. They are both too darned expenive, but what you going to do, it's still better than cable.

I've had direct since 2004 and I have been happy. I have never had dish to compare. You can find people that are unhappy with both. I can say it is much better and more reliable than the cable I had before. I do get locals and weather channel with local on 8's. I do have the sports package on top of the extended basic. Basic doesn't not include all the discovery channels and some of the channels my wife likes. I like it even more since changing to HD.

Had both. They both have their pros and cons. Right now I have Direct but I am considering switching back because Direct dropped Versus and I can't get Outdoor Channel. Plus, Dish is offering a cheaper package right now.

I have Dish and my boyfriend has Direct. He seems to get the better hunting shows but Dish is easier to use, I have a hard time finding the show I want to watch on Direct. I have had a few problems with the reciever and the've sent me 4 but I have bad luck with anything electronic. My mom has Dish and they've sent a guy to her house a few times to fix/replace their dish (its been hit by lightning twice), but when I had problems they wanted to charge me. After arguing with "Bob" in India for 10 minutes he finally sent someone out, with out charging me. Last time I had to switch out the reciever they wanted to send someone without charging me, I didn't have time to wait for someone to come out here and I had to argue with the guy to get him to send me one, like they had done the other 3 times. I wish I got some of the hunting shows my boyfriend does but if I had Direct I probably wouldnt be able to find them.

Oh and I've had it about 4 years and its only went out 3 times during a storm, when that happened I caught up on the shows I had DVR'd. I think I have the package with 300 channels, I don't watch half of them, there is a lot of c**p channels. I pay $69.01 a month.

Well, it looks like Dish is getting more positive nods than DirecTV, so I guess I will go with Dish.

Thanks much for all the input!

I'm considering swapping back to Dish Network from DirecTV also. It amazes me that both of them work their tails off to get new customers instead of trying harder to satisfy their current customers. New receivers every 4-5 years at no cost or programming credits or something would go a long way with long time customers.

DO NOT get Direct TV they have aweful customer service and awful service over all! We got out of our contract with them a couple months ago and decided to get Suddenlink cable instead of satellite and we are getting High speed internet plus a wide variety of channels and an awesome DVR for what we were paying for Direct. Also to get the hunting channels with Direct you have to purchase the huge sports tier which is $30-40 extra a month. We will never have direct tv again. If you can get Suddenlink I would seriously check into it, if not go with Dish Network.

I have dish and its okay, however if your a hockey fan, dish network is blocking out 1/4 of the dallas stars games this season due to contract issues with the NHL. Good luck and GO STARS!

I was not happy to find out about the Stars games being blacked out. However I have had dish for about 14 yrs and have been happy. dont like the way direct tv is set up.

I'm also a charter member of Dish so I can't speak of Direct TV although I checked into thm once because of a special promotion I saw somewhere but after compairing what they offered to what I had. I stayed with Dish at home and the lease. Good customer service for sure.

                            Tired of the BS

If I had to put up with the run around my wife has had to for almost a year, I would have been in jail, Directv service sucks big time!!! I think we are finally going to be able to get out of our contract w/o paying them??? I don't see how they can say they haven't broke the contract on their end, they said we would have KBTX when we hooked up again last December, then we lost Versus??? I wouldn't go with them again. We are set to go with Dish. I don't know how Direct hasn't been sued???
