    String Loop/ Draw Lenth, etc.

I did not wanted to hijack the other string loop thread recently posted, so here is my situation.

I have not used a string loop in the past. My draw length is 31" on my current bow (Mathews Featherlight- yes, it is old). I am considering looking at some other bows, but most of the ones I am interested in have a maximum draw length of 30 inches.

If I do the wingspan divided by 2.5 method (77"/ 2.5) it comes out to 30.8 inches on my draw length.

Do you think a 30 inch bow with a loop will work for me? What about if I use a peep sight? Thanks for your input.

I think you will be fine, go by a pro shop and have them set you one up at 30" with a loop...try it out and see how it feels. Alot of bows run alittle long in the draw.

Wow. You are a tall guy!! I am about 72 inches tall so using that formula I should be 28.8. I have shot a 29" Bowtech Patriot for 5 years now. Up until this season it was always too long so I had my string loop taken off before this season and I fell much more comfortable with my anchor point. Don't know if that helps you much, but what I was trying to say is the loop makes a fair amount of difference. (also see if your release is adjustable.)

also, I would think most bowshops would let you try out what you want with a string loop.

I have the same draw length @ 30.7 inches and I have always shot a 30 inch draw with a loop and it seems to work great for me. I have always said you can shoot a bow a little too short better than you can shoot one that is a little too long.

LOL, I am decently tall at 6' 3", but gosh darn it if I don't have long arms for my size.

I do realize the loop will give me more distance to my anchor point, which is good. However the string will still be farther away from my face so maybe I should upsize the peep site to 3/16 to accomodate the distance? I think I will just have to try one and see....

Definitely don't rely on the formula. I have ape arms. The formula yields 28" for me but I shoot 30". Pro shop is best bet.

I'm brand new to the bow hunting stuff and one of the issue I faced was finding a used bow with a long enough draw. Using that same formula I came out to 30.8 inches also. The thinking was to look for a 30.5 inch draw and go with a loop for the extra 1/2 inch. Picked up a sweet Hoyt Xtec and the next stop was the pro shop. They maxed out the draw length and checked with the loop installed and it was spot on at 31". They confirmed that 31 was the right number for me. So like the other have said, visit a pro shop you trust.

here is another method often used ... wing span (minus 15") divided by 2

                77 - 15 = 62 , 62 / 2 = 31"

                you're a knuckle dragger alright

try out the bows that do go to 31" first and see if they work for you. If you can't find one that you like, then you can worry about making a 30" bow work. My son's draw is 31 and he spent lots of time finding bows made in the 31 draw length. He finally decided on the Bowtech 101st airborne
