    New guy with broadhead question

Hi to all, been checking this site out for about a year now and decided to join.
I have been looking at a lot of Hog videos and it appears that most of the hogs in the videos that I have seen run after they are shot, I have only seen a few drop.
My question is, do you think that a fixed broadhead is better then a mechanical, for hog and what about deer?
I have seen a lot of folks talking about the Rage broadhead 2 blade, how does that compare to the 3 blade?
Any and all feed back would be appreciated,

By the way Very Kool Site!

first off, welcome to the site!

i personally use fixed bh's for all animals but the rage is a pretty great mechanical that puts the proof in the pudding. and for dropping hogs, those are spine shots and are not that uncommon due to their spines being located lower in their bodies than deer. i would never recommend someone try for a spine shot but it happens by mistake on occasion.

      Welcome to the fire!

I've used everybroad head in the store including rages. Anything mechanical can and will fail.

Simpler the better. I use magnus stingers, 2 blade fixed. I have shot three deer this season, including two bucks who were 130-145lbs. All three shots were pass throughs with no damage to the blades. Fancy and expensive doesn't mean anything.

I have had my best, quickest and bloodiest kills with Eastman 90gr two blades and Magnus stinger 100gr two blades. I might try the buzzcuts since they have bleeders, but even on hogs, I would be more than confident to use the above listed.

Broadheads I will never use again:
      Rage
      Montec G5
      Spitfire Mechanicals
      Slick Tricks (maybe)
      Rocky's
      Muzzy 3's and 4's

This is just my own experience. Good luck with whatever you decide to shoot!

X2 on fixed blades! Shot both I prefer fixed blade like stinger buzzcuts, slick ticks an mx4. Have had failures with the rage two blades and they are a pain to deal with! On the other hand the rage do the most damage when functioning properly!

Heck of a question for a newby. Almost looks like a set-up if I didn't know you were serious when you asked it. The key is shot placement. I've lost at least one animal with a good blood trail with mechanicals and with fixed blades. For now, I'll stick with my Montec's. You might want to wait a while before asking any questions about crossbows or high fences.

Welcome to the site, good to see you finally registered.

shot placement is absolutely essential no matter what broad head you choose. ive always shot 2 blade broadheads with log pole (heavy arrows). no matter your set up. shot placement is essential!

There are 3 things that really matter when it comes to harvesting any animal.

              1. Confidence in your equipment and what you can do with it.
              2. Sharp broadhead, no matter which brand or style.
              3. Proper shot placement.

A field point will kill an animal if placed in the right place. Practice with your equipment until you feel confident with it, buy some good quality BH's and make sure they are sharp and put your arrow in the right spot and everything else will fall into place.

              Welcome to the fire.

i like the rage 3 blade, but the placement of the shot is more critical than 2 vs 3 blade
