Horton is a decent mid level X-bow that will do anything that you need to do with it and easily hunt within 25 yards. Ten point is good quality and so are excaliber x-bows. Kinda like any other bow- I would shoot all that you can afford adn buy what fits you best. They are all heavy and somewhat loud but very effective hunting tool. Have fun.

those things can get expensive for new 10 Point xbows! I have a older steel limbed Barnett I would let go of! Thing has pretty tough trigger but man the thing launches 17" bolt crazy fast! 150 d/w will do that! New ones have scopes and compound setup that is pretty silent compared to the older recurve xbows.Mine will put field point almost completely through bag target.

start with what you can afford. If you really get into it you will researchand upgrade accordingly, just like you do (or did) with a vertical bow...xbows are catching a lot of negativity from some of the ardent vertical bow shooters but when you get to be as old as I am and after having killed over seventy deer with a longbow and a comound bow, my xbow (a Tenpoint now by the way) lets me continue hunting with an arrow when my shoulders won't let me pull a long string anymore...each to his own I guess...but if you love hunting at close range like I do, do what you enjoy and don't let the negativity steer you from enjoying yourself to the fullest...

I have a low end Barnett and it shoots great. I got it for my nephews to shoot. Although just like a rifle or bow you need to practice with it and only shoot in your comfort zone. I don't allow shot over 20 yards with mine. Although with practice I am sure shots could be made out 40 yards......Remember, crossbows are not rifles and will not shoot accuratly out to long distances.
I bought mine at Cabelas and they will let you shoot them first. Plan on spending $250-$400 for a lower end and double or triple that price for the high end.......

I just had surgery on my shoulder and the only thing I can use this year is a cross bow or not hunt, and i can not understand why someone who use a bow that is just as technological if not more then a crossbow will criticize someone who uses a cross bow. with all of the technology in compound bows there is very little difference between using a compound bow and a crossbow. if anything it's kind of tougher shooting a cross bow at distances because the bolt drops so much faster at a distance than an arrow shot from a bow.
I would much rather use my bow but I can't, but from personal experience using a crossbow doesn't make it any less challenging.
Don't forget when compounds were introduced they were frowned upon by traditional archers
