10-16 through 10-21 South South Texas Report, Whackin and Stackin!

Well, I did a live hunt on the 16th and it got cut off by the server changeover.

I shot a beautiful and unusualy buck. It has to be one of the bigger bucks killed on a live hunt, at least that I have seen!

I plan on doing a nice write up on him because he deserves it.

Anyhow here he is and it is one of my best archery killed deer.

Well, that night my buddy (my Dad's best friend) missed the 8 point he has been hunting for the 2nd time! This would have been his first buck with a bow. He has killed a doe and a Nilgai bull before and that is it!

Saturday morning he finally connected on this bruiser!

I sat in a tripod about a mile away to help with a pig problem. I shot a boar at about 6 steps but, the brush he went into was way to thick for me to risk anything getting him out!

Saturday afternoon we ran up to my other place and started culling. I got a text about 6:00pm from by buddy saying he had stuck a buck. About 15 minutes later I smoked this 3.5yr old with my rifle:

And about 10 minutes after that I shot this 2.5yr old at 296yards. He is missing a browtine and that made him go on the hitlist!

With both deer down, I went and got my truck loaded the deer up and headed to my buddies tripod with my tracking dog. He told me the shot was too far back and he could only find one small speck of blood on some bluestem. I put the dog on it and cut him loose. About 7 or 8 minutes later I could see the dog sitting on the GPS and we went straight to the dog and his 2nd buck with a bow! I created a monster!

We cleaned them up and dropped them off at the processors on the way back to our other ranch.

Sunday morning was spent cleaning up, shredding and doing general ranch work. We had guests (my customers) coming in from Idaho Sunday evening.

The next morning we came across this great 8point for one of my customers first whitetail deer!

On the way in my buddy had sent me a message telling me he had a flat tire. We went and picked him up and on the way in we saw a super small 8point with a super huge body. I let the other customer shoot but, he hit him low in the leg. We gave him an hour to lay down before we went in after him. I saw bone and a small amount of blood immediately so I cut the tracking dog loose. It was hot and dry but, about 45 minutes and 1.25miles later he was on him and had him bayed. I was able to dispatch him with a quick shot from my 454 lever gun. He scored 98" and weighed 172lbs dressed at 6.5yrs old! I did not take pictures for some reason?

The next morning (tuesday) he redeemed himself with a perfect shot on this beautiful buck that scored 129"! Also his first whitetail.

That afternoon we loaded up and headed to our place in Port A for some fishing. We had hoped to go offshore but, it was just going to be too rough. We loaded up in the bay boat Wed morning at daylight and our captain headed off. It was a great temperature but ,the wind was howling.

We were in fish from the word go catching over 100 reds and 50 trout. We only kept 2 reds, 6 trout and 1 flounder which we ate immediately at fins once the day was over!

Here are a few pics of some keepers we caught.

All in all a great few days in South Texas and I am ready to head back!

Nice work Quad! You have a target rich environment!

We did a heavy culling last year, so we won't have that many to get this year

One more thing.....you get the award for gory LDP's! The last LDP was perfect
