I shot at my first deer of the season with my bow this evening. I put a spot and stalk on a spike and got to what I thought was 40 yards. After the shot I stepped it off at 41 yards. So I was pretty close on the range. I made what I thought at the time was a great shot. The arrow was perfect up and down but maybe just a bit forward. When it hit it made that good connection "qwuaaack" sound and he ran across about a 250 yard field with the broad head end of my arrow sticking out about a foot. I could not see the blazers.
Well, after about 2 hours of my wife and I both searching we found absolutely NOTHING! Not a drop of blood, hair or my arrow.
Makes me sick to make such a good stalk on a WHITETAIL with a bow, judge the distance so well, make what looked like a good shot and not find the deer. I just knew he was going to fall when he was crossing the field after the shot and when he didn't I was sure he would be just in the tree line he went into. UUUUGH.
Hope it stays pretty chili tonight cause I'm going to go look some more tomorrow morning.
