I personally like the Garmin line. The eTrex Summit is great. And has an electronic compass which I find very important. Garmin is really the only ones I have any experience with though. Very easy to use with one hand as well.
Can find them for around $175.....
But a good compass goes a long way’s, don’t ever forget that.

I have the 60 CSX and absolutely love it. What I did (and had the luxury of a local shop) was went to Bass Pro, explained what I intended to use it for, and was set up with the best fit.

I use the Garmin CSX and find that the accuracy of this unit is better than most. For use in a vehicle I couple it with a Gillson external antenna to get to the 7' accuracy range. We used these units to locate gates and cattle guards for the map of the Texas Shoot Out and the guys testing the collected data and the maps were very satisfied with the results.
For collecting points the CSX is tops, in my opinion, for getting to known points, we tested the Garmin Nuvi and found that we could get to where we needed with most any GPS.
It then becomes a matter of function, as to whether you need a $300 unit or a $100 GPS.
