As some of you know I work at the University Of Texas and I am a systems tech. My boss came in the other day and asked me to make my deer chili for a cook off the libraries do as a fund raiser. Well most of the people that work on campus are let’s just say tree huggers and I know that deer chili will be something that most of them would not think about eating. So I went about making my chili with the help of a lot of different recipes I found on TBH. I picked up a 12 pack of beer and went to work cooked up a big pot using Whitetail and Sika deer I had taken last season. I spent a lot of time cooking this up just to see how many tree huggers I could get to just try eating deer. I am not in it to win it. Now here is where I take it over the top. The table set up is the Skill mount of the whitetail they will be eating a camo table cloth and the LDP’S of both deer and the pot of chili.
People payed 10 bucks to come in and try each entre and vote the best tasting chili. I was up against some stiff compaction with Momma recipe, Viggie chili, chicken chili, green pork chili and a few others. People came by each both to get their samples and talk with the cooks. My table was the last one so each person had a tray full of chili by the time they got to mine. The look and the reaction on most of them were priceless!
I had two people tell me how cruel it was to kill deer and a few that would not even try the chili.
One almost spilled their tray when she saw the LDP’S but over all I had a lot of people try something new and with good results. The eating was over and the votes were in. I was cleaning up when I heard my name that’s right Team Deer and Beer won beating out all the other tree huggers with Deer Chili! Thanks to all the Tbhers who posted chili recipes on this site I couldn’t have done it with out your help.
