    Anyone hunt in Runnels county?

I have a friend that has invited me there and im prolly going nov 6. I just wanted to know what kind of deer are in the area horns wise? when the rut would be? just some tips on the area? Thanks in advance.

oh yeah he said some of the hunting we would be doing is off of one of his cotton fields that the deer have taken almost half of it out. he is not to happy about that. So thats another reason he invited me bc he only has so many tags.

I have killed some deer in Runnels cnty. LOts of deer so animal sightings and shooting opps at does should not be a problem. There are some good deer there and like most places it varies from spot to spot. I would say that a really great buck for the area would be 140ish. You'll have fun

The times I have drove thru Runnels towards Coleman I have yet to see a good buck roaming around, think Prime Time would be around Turkey Day, alot of acorns dropping now.
              Good luck to ya

I hunted just outside of Winters for years. Decent herd of deer . Every now and then you might see a nice 120-130 class deer- But we had A LOT of turkey. I tagged out on turkey every year as well as everybody else on lease.

Rut was usually around Nov 14th. With this cold weather it may be ealier.

Last year the rut was getting started on opening weekend of rifle season and usually is in full swing by the second weeked of November. I have hunted north of Winters for over 20 years and horn size has always been on the small side. I have however seen a few (very few) true trophy size animals so I know they are there. We are covered in hills, cedars and mesquites on our place and I don't think I have seen better land anywhere else in the county. I think that part of the country has everything to produce large racked animals but for some reason they are few and far between despite cover, water and agriculture. We are however over run with hogs and doe's and Taylor county just went to a 5 deer county.
Oh well, I'm an unsuccessfull "trophy hunter" who loves to hunt and am lucky to have a place to go.

                    Good luck to ya.
