    I think I'm out $275!

Back in July I posted about a problem I was having with an item I purchased at a benefit auction I attended. This benefit was back in February. I had donated several antler items and also purchased some items. One of the items I purchased was a custom fire pit/grill. It is the kind that is an over glorified fire ring with swiveling arms for cooking over the fire. It was supposed to be made to our dimensions by a metal/welding company in Angelton.

Well the donator took our calls and measurements and said it would be a few weeks. A month later we called and it was going to be a few more weeks. Another call, another few weeks.

Well, long story short the guy quit taking our calls or returning messages. We contacted the people who organized the benefit and told them our problems. They started calling the guy and got the same run around, FOR MONTHS! Here it is nearly November and we still don't have our fire pit.

Does anyone know if we have any legal recourse? This is getting tiresome.

Your legal recourse is through the place you bought it from, they have to go after the donor.......

Sounds like I would get the local newspaper on it. Nobody would want their business' name smeared in the paper for crawfishing on a benefit donation.

Go back to the company that put on the benefit, it's their obligation not the donors......

I agree. You actually paid the benefit and they are the ones that listed the item for sale. Not much you can do but stay in touch with the group that ran the benefit and hope they can pressure the company to come thru with the item they promised to donate. Good luck. I think you are right in that you made a $275 donation instead of a purchase.

Time to make a drive down to the benefit's office or down to the grill maker in person....$275 is $275 in these economic times....

I live less than a mile from the shop I think you are dealing with. Let me know if I can do anything to help.
