The deer love alfalfa. Not sure about the golden nuggets. I've seen it but never used it.

In these wet moist conditions this season, I am not so sure I would risk ruining my season with the deer nuggets and their propensity to clog up feeders ....

It works great. i take a cup full everytime i go to the stand and just throw it out. It puts off a great smell that brings them in...I've been using as a treat instead of constant feed. I will pour out small amounts year round and they come to it every time....

DoublePlay feeds them year round in Rock Springs. Let's see if he posts up here.

I tried some around one of my feeders last season. When the deer came in after the feeder went off, all they did was eat the corn. Would sniff the Nuggets and walk on by. Maybe it was because it something different or that it was in small piles..i dunno. My buddies place 20 miles away, the deer love it. He does not use it in the feeder, just throws it out as treat once in awhile.

I put 3 sacks in protein feeder to see if deer would eat it. It was gone in 2 weeks.

Apparently they are hitting the golden nuggets around the Llano area and ignoring the corn.

just reporting on what I heard.....

Haven't tried it myself, but I probably will drop some sucker bucks on it before too long!

My grandfather used to hang a sack of apples and oats in a tree and it worked great... this was before we had feeders.....

I fed deer nuggets year around probably for the last year and a half. When I first started to buy them it was the same exact price as corn, so I figured I might as well throw out higher protein stuff. The deer absolutely loved them at my place. This last month I switched back to corn and believe it or not I have seen fewer deer (that may be due to acorns though). I dropped my spinning plate a little further and made sure it has a good opening to throw them. You will probably also need to bump up the time you throw because it throws less per second than corn (at least it does with my feeder). If you can get them for a comparable price to corn, I think you should do it without hesitation. Just my 2 cents.

I was buying mine in boerne at barkley's feed and supply. Im sure You can get them anywhere record rack products are sold. Go to record racks' website and do a search near your area to find a feed store that finds them.

I think the Llano feed store sells it.

I know the little feed store in Cherokee sells it (the one on the Llano side of Cherokee on 16)

I dumped a whole bag in a feeder pen, set up a camera and left. Came back three weeks later, pile of golden nuggets was still there and nothing touched. Pix of deer eatin mineral block. Never even sniffed the golden nuggets.
