    AR handguard help

I finally got some parts in for my current AR project. Now I am looking for a specific hand rail but I'm not sure they even make it. I want a hand guard similar to this one:

Only problem I see is that this one is made for an M4 carbine and mine is an 18" SPR with a mid-length gas system.

I am wanting to accomplish some thing like this:

While using this type of gas block/flip up sight system (they make a model without the swivel and bayonet lug):

    So, any suggestions?

I would check with LeRue and Noveske. Both make their own from scratch....

            Mike,

Have you checked out the Vltor?? This is what I plan to use for my next build.

That hand guard looks like a PRI, if I'm not mistaken. If you want something like that, then I'd suggest getting that one. However, since you have a gas block with the rail over the top of it, then I would suggest a midlength Troy MDF or a MI Midlength (9") so it goes right up to the gas block, but doesn't cover it up, since it's a flip up sight.

              Samson Star has one:

              Front-site Base w/o Bayo lug:

              Front-site base with bayo lug:

Daniel Defense has a 12" Rail with Front Sight Base:

The Daniel Defense 12.0 FSPM Free Float Rail System features a cut in the front of the top rail to accommodate the front sight post and gas block of a mid-length AR15 gas system, while at the same time, providing much needed additional rail space along the sides and bottom rails.

Yeah Paul I looked at the Vltor, they didn't have what I was looking for.

If you are talking about the ones in my original pictures, those are a YHM fore end and FSB. They only offer that series in the carbine length though.

I saw the DD one you posted and regrettably that one is out of the budget at over $350.

MIke look at Wilson Combat....... I am really looking into the same design myself..... machined down with small rails on the sides and full rails on top and bottom.

Wilson Combat has been the innovator in custom pistols, long guns, and accessories since 1977. Home of the Wilson Combat 1911, EDC X9, WCP320, and more!

I feel your pain. The most economical way to do it, and I'm in the same boat, is the Troy MDF *Modular* which is free float. The 9 will go right up to the gas block, and will allow your flip up to work effectively. Honestly, my choice is the low profile, and a rail that will go over it altogether, save that money and buy a "cheaper" front sight, like the Troy or Magpul. In fact, this is what I am talking about with the 9" and the low profile.

That was the route I had originally planned. I planned on a low profile gas block and a rifle length rail. This would totally cover the gas block and have lots of rail space. Budget wise that is what I am going to have to do unless somebody hurries up and buys my upper from the classifieds.

Actually I have already bought the gas block. I went with the Vltor GB-2CS and am still debating on the handrail. I will probably just go with a YHM diamond series like I had originally planned.

I still have to buy a couple of Larue optics mounts as well.

Mike I'm pretty sure that there is not a company out there that makes a railed gas block that install's even with the rail. The gas blocks are almost always about a 1/16 shorter and do not match up..

You can run pretty much do the same thing but will have to adjust a bit in your configuration. Go with a Larue Low profile gas block and then buy the handguard of your choice then install a Troy FSB....

On my Colt Im running something close but using a carbine gas system with e Larue low profile gas block with a 10 inch Larue rail system..with a Troy FSB...

IF I remember right the Larue 12 inch railed handguard is around 299.00, Larue low profile gas block is around 69.00 and a troy FSB will be around 120.00

Keep a eye out on the EE of at ARFCOM I picked up a green CTR for 50.00 the other day that was new in the box...

                          Mike,

Doesn't the Knights URX II have a flush flip up site?? From the pics I've seen, it almost appears as if part of the rail actually turns into the front site.
