I had set up a blind and feeder several months before season and it turned out to be great. trail cams showed a ton of pictures and a couple bucks that are better than i ever remember seeing out there. I had a shot at the big 10 opening morning and he jumped the string and ducked the arrow. I had another good shot that next evening from the same blind and he didnt jump the string but i hit the velcro on the window of the blind and it deflected a foot over his back and then about a week later i had a perfect shot at the same buck broadside looking away but when i released he turned away and the rage opened and deflected off the shoulder and shaved the hair off him and that is it. We have layed off shooting from that blind to reduce the pressure and moved the blind closer and concealed it better to allow a better opportunity in the future but I am wondering if this buck will ever show his face again. We have no trail cam pics of him since. We are hunting 60 acres and the deer come from the neighboring property which is only gun hunted so im wondering when pressure increases on that property or the rut kicks in will he be dumb enough to come around again? We have a great population of does and bucks but the big ones are limited and i would like someone to have a chance at this buck. also the rains have greened things up and the deer are less interested in the corn so we are seeing less of the other bucks as well, so maybe that is also a reason we may not see him again? we also put in a treestand there to get above eye level and keep from being busted so deer will calm down some but has anyone dealt with a similar situation and will this deer be back?

Sounds like he's got a death wish and he's looking for somebody to grant it.
You did say you have shot at him 3 times already?
Nobody can know if he will come back. Keep hunting though and if I were in your shoes, I would head to the range every chance I got.
I shot a doe last year on a severe quartering away angle with a 2 blade rage, the entry hole was 8 inches long, it looked like she had been hit with a machete.
Good luck

i practice ALOT, daily in fact... no doubt i need the hunting experience being a new bowhunter again but i am confident in the fact that i can shoot. We actually have a problem with some stray dogs that run our place and have run almost all of our turkey off and have our deer spooked beyond what u could believe and that is why i have moved my blind closer. My avg shot before was 30 yds and is now 16 yds and I feel better about that. Also i never anticipated deer ducking an arrow flying 260 fps until i saw it with my own eyes so i now aim low and am learning from my mistakes! i love the bowhunting so much more because of the challenge and I will get better with experience. And it definitely seems the buck has issues, but im really hoping that other pressure and the rut might bring him back! probably not but who knows? also i have no doubts on the rage and im not blaming it at all. My problem was not anticipating or reading the deers movement, if i would have i would have shot further back knowing it was going to turn away or shot low knowing it was going to duck. LIke i said though it will come with the experience!

i know how you feel man, its gut wrenchin. and i really thought when i shot that he was down, i hit mid shoulder high and looked to be right on but he turned quickly and i recovered the arrow with no blood but had tissue on on side of the arrow. there was also a pretty good pile of hair at shot sight. i tracked and tracked for hours and hours and no blood not one drop. But there was also an 8 thats been with him that will score better but he is younger and i didnt want to shoot him. If i can get some pictures up i would like to know what you think age wise and score wise of each the 10 and 8... the 8 hasnt showed his face in a while either but like i said its greened up and they are grazing alot more than they are coming to corn.Last edited by tamu_bspeck; 10-30-2009, 05:22 PM.

southeast of clyde but southwest of baird before you get to clyde lake... cross plains is some really good hunting for the most part or at least friends of mine have had some luck around there. our problem where we are at is there are just too many small tracts of land and too many of those landowners are not at all interested in management. they will shoot anything with horns whether young or old... the 8 we have out there cant be any older than 3 1/2 but basically becomes a shooter since he's superior to the norm out there and too many hunters will take him if we dont seize the opportunity. it sucks and i dont have a clue how to make it any better
