I killed a big 8 in Nov. and decided to get it mounted. The taxidermist that I have used in the past retired and gave me a reccomendation. I decided to go with this person. When I dropped it off I was told 4 months and that they would call me when they got to it for the pose I wanted. Well it has been 5 months and I had heard nothing so decided to call. After 2 weeks of calling at least once a day someone finally answered the phone. They could not find my deer but said they assured me it was there and would call me the next day this was last Wednesday and I have not heard anything yet. While we were on the phone I got a sob story of family problems from A-Z and being backed up and went on to tell me if I wanted to come pick it up I could. This is not a monster by any means but a real nice 8. He was 18" inside with 5" brows, 11" G2s and 8" G3s so I don't want to loose it. Would you pick it up?

The size does not matter at all! It is an issue of customer service. I have a bobcat in East Texas that I have not seen in nearly 3 years. Heck, I even paid $200 bucks to get it started. No return calls, no response to the notes I have left on the door......NOTHING! Go and get your deer and close that chapter completely! So disgusting to deal with these folks that have NO concern for there own livelyhood!!!

Like Landrover said, the antler size makes no difference. If it was a trophy to you and you wanted it mounted, that's all that matters. I'd pick it up and consider it a learning experience. It is really scary the number of disreputable taxidermy stories that come across the green screen. I'm just glad you are able to get your animal back. Many have not been that "lucky".

I really don't want to sound like I am dragging their name through the mud, so I had decided to keep the name private. I believe that they have a good operation normally because I trust the guy that reccomended them to me. For me this is an experience is frustrating and one that I have learned from. The name of the Taxidermist is Lone Star Taxidermy in Athens, TX. If anybody here has used them and were satisified good, but again for me it has been very unprofessional at minimal.
