What other breeds of dogs have you used in the past? I have heard some stories about Black Mouth Cur's being some of the best tracking dogs! Good Work and keep it up!
I have had a plott hound, catahula, jackrussell, two other black mouth curs, and a Hiens 57 mutt.
Well another one down. I got the call about 6:00 this afternoon. And loaded up and headed down to fort makavit. Jumped my dog out and he winded the deer. I went ahead and got him on the trail followed him for about 500yards or so. And it took about as long as you can walk that distance. He didnt miss a beat. Took me straight to the deer with in 10mins. Deer had been shot since 7 this morning. So the trail was 11hr old. The deer was down good. This is by far one of the better jobs I have been on. This was a 12 year old girls first deer with a bow. I dont think she could have smiled any bigger. She was extremely happy. And one heck of a buck.
Well the first no find in two years tonight. However I am 100% sure the deer is still alive. Got the call around 9 this morning. 13yr old boy shot a a 12 pointer. Said he was pritty sure he shot it in the shoulders. He had shot the deer saturday at 7pm. So the trail was almost 48hrs old. They had found blood for about 400yards and lost it. I kicked my dog out and we went straight to the last spot of blood they found. From there we went about 3/4 of a mile and my dog found more blood. All really light watery blood. From there we went about another 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile and found another puddle of blood and the deer went over a fence. It was shot with a 30-06. If it would have been a good hit the deer would not have made it over a mile. After getting full of thorns and almost eaten by a huge hog i called it good. But like i said I am positive that any deer that will travel that far is still alive but might be hurting. My poor dog looks like a pin coushin. I guess I can add a no find to the list. makes 9 or 11 out of 112 found. Still not to bad for only being 4.
Thanks. It just aggrivates me when we dont find. Because it doesnt happen very offen. But like i said i am so confident in my dog that i know the deer is still up and going.
Back at it again this year but an extended area this year. Will add a few pics from opening weekend tracking job. Keep me in mind. I now will be able to service the Throckmorton area and adjoining counties. As well as south to san Angelo.
Well last year day before opening day of bow season and on my birthday sept. 30th Zed my dog got ran over on the highway in front of my house. I was out of commission all of last year and started training two new dogs. So I should be back at it again at full force this year.
I will be covering anywhere with in a decent driving distance from San Angelo. Keep me in mind.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your other companion
Sorry to hear about your loss, but thrilled for you to be back in the game. Wish I lived in a county where more hunting took place so I could do this on the weekends. Your service is well needed. Keep it up. angie
