feeding different types of protein on the same ranch.

Today at the feed store we hung out while the sleet and rain passed. While there I got to looking at the idffernt brands of protein type feeds they had. They have the usual Antlermax, Record Rack, a brand out of West, one other and then some brand that was 25% corn and 75% roasted soy beans.

We have fed antlermax for the past 5 years and havent vaired to any other brands. Truth be told the consumption rates are so high I know they "like" it. We feed Antlermax out of three free choice feeders. We also have two trough style feeders that are on timere(Made by feedermax).

So...here I am sitting inside during the bad weather and I get to thinking I would try a couple hundred pounds of the soybean mix to see what happened and what the deer thought in these time regulated feeders.

I dont have any need or desire to change brands from Antlermax but I dont want to give the deer anything that might turn them off to the antlermax.

    Am I over thinking everything?

Jeff, We are near Coleman and at the Gore Bros. feed store in Brownwood they make Horn Korn roasted soybeans and corn mixed in a 50# bag,we put this mix in our spin style feeders and fill our protein feeders with Antlermax Watershield alone for free choice. Hoping to plant food plots this year for a little extra for the wildlife in our area.. but so far so good!

Yea I guess it wouldnt be any different than corn feeders during the season...

We shut down the corn as soon as the season is over so the deer will only have protein to eat besides the native grass and forbes. I just dont want to do anything to take away from them eating protein. I may be overthinking it a bit...

Unless your dissatisfied with the results from the Antlermax, why change? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. We all have the tendancy to want to experiment and try different new stuff, but truth be told we'd all be better off if we found something that worked for us and just stuck with it. Looking at too many protein options will do that to a man. jmo.

There are only a couple of reasons I see worthy of changing.

1.) Something that might yield a better result or something that is proven to grow bigger deer.

2.) Something that will give you the exact same results for a lesser cost.

In my experience they probably all work fine. IF your deer are easting a good feed then that is probably as good as the next one. I have seen reports and test from all sorts of stuff but, at the end of the day there is a lot that goes into the deer besides just the feed.

I am feeding L&E on one ranch, Antlermax at home and probably Antlermax at our new place. Not because one is superior but, because of the ranch location and the cost of transportation.

I have seen 200" deer come off of just about all the major brand feeds, so I am sure everyone has a valid argument.
