Removing Soke from a used vehicle??

I have found a used vehicle that we are interested in purchasing from an individual. The problem is that it has been smoked in a lot. It is a 2006 with leather interior and would be a good deal. We drove it for about 30 minutes and the wife had a headache for the rest of the evening due to the smell.

Is there a proven method to getting the odor out of the interior? I have heard that body shops have an Ionizer they can place inside for a couple of days and get it out but I want to know if this is reliable.

    Thanks in Advance,,

I made the mistake of buying a smoker's truck one time. I ozoned it (more than once), shampooed the carpet and upholstery, air-freshened it, baking soda, drove everywhere with the windows down.........

It still reaked for over a year. Best thing to do is just buy one that didn't belong to a smoker before.

You will never get it out of there. I had a vehicle for 3 years that belonged to an ex smoker and I was never able to get the smell out, especially when the temps heated up in the summer.

the nicotine impregnates everything and short of replacing every pieceof fabric in the interior(visors included), you won't be able to. it gets into the plastic coating on the wiring, the dash, every nook and cranny, and the seat cushions as well.

smoke in a vehicle is kinda like knocking over a full spittoon or getting bong water on the carpet

you can't ever get rid of that nasty smell !!!!!!

Put a bug bomb in the car and leave it alone for 72 hours. Then roll down the windows and let it air out. There is an active ingredient in the roach/bug bomb that will take out the smell, but then you have to make sure that the smell dissipates from the bug bomb as well. Take some febreeze granuals and sprinkle in the carpet let stand for a couple of days and then vaccum. The smell should be gone.
