I think they all dug holes and buried up at our lease. It was incredibly slow this past weekend. I shot one pig after dark and missed another in the pouring rain, so I at least had some kind of action. Did not see very many deer at all. Acorns by the millions on the ground and more falling all the time.

I just found out that PETA blasted out an email the night before opening day warning that we would be in the woods...apparently the deer are on their subscriber list.

I got skunked as well and didn't see one darn deer or hog! As most have said, I had plenty of pics of deer and hogs up until a few weeks ago. I hunt south of San Antone, and it has been DRY. We just started getting a good amount of rain, and now everything is green and tender. I am confident that the deer will be back! Keep at it guys!

So any suggestions to pull closer to where I'm at, short of moving to a trail? Too early for doe estrus? ratttling? I tried some fawn and doe bleats sunday with no sucess.

No oaks anywhere around the ranch, and the only deer I saw walked by the feeder without even looking at it. Wheat plots are all up about 6 inch or more.

My worst opening weekend in Hill Country history. I hunted areas that are full of natural food sources and still saw little movement.

No acorns on the tree farm in Nacogdoches County so I can't blame that...the only deer I did see ate green vegetation 60+ yards from my stand...they weren't interested in the corn. I hope the story changes in three weeks when we return.

glad our stonewall place doesnt have acorns, but the green from the rain has played a part, but our big boys dont go to feeders till cold weather.
