Does the IPhone work like a 'real' GPS in that it recieves the sat signals and processes them to result in the lat/long location of where you are, or does it recieve them, doodle-around with the math, then send them via uplink to the cell tower, and the processed result of location comes back to you, like on my Moto RAZR? The difference is if you dont' have cell service/signal in a location, my RAZR does not work for GPS.
I'm in the semi industry, and I've worked with customers who designed/sold those GPS processors and it takes either another chip or adding it to the chip in the phone, which adds cost to their bill of material.

That said, a real GPS can be bought for cheap and I would rather trust something made by Garmin for navigation than Apple.

Surprisingly the maps by Google that is already on the phone has been pretty useful. I looked up a fishing spot called Emmords Hole and it showed up. It's in the middle of the Laguna Madre.

However, the Motion X is incredibly accurate. I marked a bunch of blinds on my buddy's ranch in El Indio then showed them to him. He was amazed at the accuracy.
Has a nice tracking feature that shows real time speed of travel and average speed. Allows you to save tracks and waypoints.
It also allows you to use itunes while using the app. Kind of a cool feature.Last edited by Soapeddler; 10-05-2009, 07:11 AM.
