Fallow Deer- what's the going rate at auction?

I know someone who's selling a herd of about 100 fallow deer. How much money are big bucks, small bucks and does bringing at auctions around the state? I have no idea but want to make sure I'm not going to get ripped off. They have been fed well and are in extremely good condition considering the drought.

    Thanks!

Going rate will vary greatly by sale and who's there. Fallow are expensive right now. You can find middle age bucks - 3-4"palms for $750-1250, with most falling around $800-900, and the big bucks will run up $1800-2200 from what I've seen recently. Does around $200, and spike stalkers around $400. I would say if you're looking at something close to those prices maybe even on the higher end of those numbers and buying direct from a ranch you are right in the ballpark. One thing is you are less likely to loose animals buying direct, and you can get a better sense for the overall genetics of the stock. Sales are higher risk, hence the price can be a bit more reasonable.
