Think I found a Honey Hole

Not having much luck with the landowner behind my house, I thought I was going to have to end up hunting public land here in Kansas.
I was introduced to a guy at church who has offered to let me and my wife hunt their family property free of charge. He showed us around and pointed out the boundries, and we went to work scouting. Put up a ladder stand for my wife and a loc-on to hunt with her, and then I found it. A big ridge that drops into a creek bottom that is cover in Oak Trees that are raining acorns.
Opening day was the 21st of Sept. and I did not hunt the bottom. I did hunt it in Sat. the 26th and had a doe on top of me by 7 am. Still don't know where she came from. No shot opportunity.
Hunted that evening and was covered up in Wild Turkeys. Stop counting at 15.. All hens. Hunted this morning, and by 8 am had a doe at 23 yds. Cut the shot and must have hit a limb. gave her a good haircut thatis for sure. Disgusted in myself for taking the shot. About 30 min. later I hear something in the leaves walking, I turn and there is another deer on the same trail. Only this time it was a 2.5 yr. old 8 point. had him at 17 yds, full draw for 2 minutes and finally had to let it down. He caught movement, and before I knew it, he bounded off, with a Friend. He will now get to walk. I want his friend. This deer has a HUGE white rack and a body to match. Could not count points, but do not really care..
On my way way, found 4 different scrapes that were recently worked.
Think I may have found a Honey Hole....

Sounds like it, good luck and you might want to get that landowner a gift, keep him happy and you might have a place to hunt free forever.

Time really is on my side. Kansas Archery Season runs from Sept. 21 to Dec 31. Dec. 2-13 is firearm season, but I will proibably hunt with rchery for the entire year. Then Jan. 1-10 is the extended firearm antlerless season.
Wish I was in the woods everyday....
I will keep y'all posted and hopeful to have LDPs before too long..

Really is a great place. It is only 160 acres, with a 55 acre open pasture. The remaining land is timber and ridges. There is another large ridge I have found that we will hunt sometime this year, just not sure when. One thing I have noticed is the family that owns it (they hunt it also) only set stands around the open pasture. I was ask why do I get in the timber, and I responded that is what I know. I have only seen one deer in the pasture, but I am sure as the year progresses, there will be more there.
