I have two boys 11yoa, and 2yoa. Last night I was trying to get organized to head out later this week, and was going through arrows, tuning knocks etc. I have a 3d quiver that I usually take to the lease to target shoot during the day. I have been using this quiver and have shot off some nocks, and fletchings of the arrows in it, so I was changing out arrows. My 2 year old was in the living room with me and I had let him hold on to an arrow with no field point. I have a bobcat rug with head on the couch and he was wacking the bobcat with the arrow. I got a phone call about this time and turned away for 2 seconds. My 2yo grabs another arrow, this one with a field point. I realized it and reached for it and said "No it will poke you." He thought it was funny, and took off with it.
Do you see what's coming?
He runs about four steps as I am reaching to grab him. He is running holding the field point towards him, nock away. He lowers the nock end just enough to stab it into the carpet, and the arrow comes to a sudden stop, but he does not. I heard him scream, and look to see him holding his belly.
Now I am in panick mode. I expected to see the arrow hanging out of his back. I grabbed him up and start checking for blood. He had a small pin stick to the right of his belly button. Luckily just a good lesson learned with no lasting damage. Momma came in to "discuss" my inablity to supervise a 2yo. My older son, who is very protective of his brother, was not real happy with me either.
I think I have taken years off my life. I hope this is not a sign of how the season is going to go. I really want to get out of here and sit in a stand for a few days. Everyone be careful, even before you leave.
I hugged on my kiddo for 30 minutes or so after that before I would let him go.
