Acorns fell, deer at feeder slowed, how long?

New to hunting. Does this always happen? How long does it last?

Until the acorns are gone about Jan.

Yep it happens. I have found nothing you plant will compete with spring green up, and nothing you feed will compete with acorns (they will still come to feeders, just not as often or regular) They will come back after the acorns are gone or rotted.

Some years in Mason we have to turn off our feeders because the corn is just piling up. That was years back before the hogs moved in!!!

If you get rain after they fall then they rot faster.

turned my feeder down in DeWitt county. Acorns were falling all over the place, like on my head! I stalked up to some pigs and they were crunching on acorns. I even witnessed two raccoons eating acorns. Of course that was their last meal!

If acorns are what they want, try the acorn rage block. we had the same problem a few years back and it worked.

Until it rains and they rot or until the deer eat all of them! That's what sucks about hunting around Acorns unless you have the only oak trees for miles around....then its golden!

This is the story of my life in Spicewood and has been since I started hunting there 8 years ago. Trailcams show deer at every feeding until the third week of Sept and then POOF - nothing.

this could suck at our lease. Will try the Acorn Rage this year.

We still are talking about Texas here right?
Seriously moe to any hardwoods that you have on your place, or as close to them as you can get.

Sometimes it's easy for Texas hunters to become too dependant on hunting over feeders. We are lucky and spoiled in that fact, however, don't let the fact that deer aren't coming to your feeders ruin your hunt. This is were true hunting skills are displayed. Get out and scout trails, etc. A good acorn drop will scatter deer, but they'll always use trails to get to and from.
