Same thing happened to a friend of mine....I think he got 3 pellets in the eye,,,,luckily God was watching over him, he is fine.
Another time, he was shooting hs rifle, from behind a bg tree. The only part of his body sticking out was his left arm....Ricochet..right into his arm.
I was shooting my 45 at an old Coleman grill, it too ricoched back into my chest....scared me good..the lead just fell to the ground...

Stories like this are just so scary. If it wasn't for the camaraderie of bird hunting, it would almost be enough to make me go alone. I had quite a scare once (by a police officer, no less!) while quail hunting in college. That's when I found out that a shotgun is even louder when it's aimed in your direction.

Last week we had a similar situation, but not as bad. My FIL shot a bird that went down on the edge of a tank and was fluttering away. My buddies 7 year old was retrieving another downed bird on the top of the tank dam opposite of my FIL. Luckily, he was about 75 yards away and he was hit by ricochet. He was hit three times and only one penetrated, but it was in his cheek. Thank God it was not his eye. We had to get it cut out at the clinic though.
That was a very real reminder for all of us about safety while bird hunting. My son and I will always where blaze orange when bird hunting. You also never shoot without being 100% sure of your target and what is behind it. These are things everyone knows, but do you practice it???

I got peppered once several years ago (thank God it was from much farther away and the pellets were tweezerable) when dove hunting and now when hunting with someone else we either sit right by each other (so that you would have to be a complete idiot to swing through) or too far away to shoot.
Glad your friend is okay, sounds like it could have been a lot worse!

That's a good cautionary tale. I too was shot in much the same manner while pheasant hunting in the Panhandle almost 10 years ago.....for me, it was at about 60 yards but with copper plated #4's .........glad it was in the 20's that day, as my heavy clothes prevented most of the pellets from penetrating my skin (thanks Carhart)......and a heavy oilskin hat limited penetration on my head and face. Let me tell you though....heavy clothes or not it took me several minutes to recover from the ones that hit the boys....in a word, it hurt bad.
It was not cool......and the guy who shot me will never be the same over it, which is a good thing.
