    Tower Blind Tips?

I'm in the process of building a heavy duty 4'X8' box blind using the shadow hunter elevators. So far, I've got the floor built and the elevators installed. What features should I incorporate into the blind? Things that I should stay away from? Things that you didn't think you needed but wish you have now?

I've got some 12' 4"X4"s that I plan on using for the legs, so I'm guessing that this will put the base of the blind ten or eleven feet above the ground. Is this too tall for a spot that wouldn't give a shot longer than 50 yards?

I don't want to skimp on this blind as I'd like it to last a few decades. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

It might be on the tall side for a spot of that size, but I say do it any way because you never know if you might have to move it later for a spot that it will need to be tall for.

How would you recommend doing that? Guy wires? Setting the legs in concrete? I might even be able to chain or ratchet the blind to a tree.

Buddy on our lease built the exact same blind - same dimensions 12' foot high 4"x4" posts for the legs, 1" x 12" x 12 foot cross bracing, elevators, etc.

He put it up in July. We are in the TX Panhandle. When we went to check on his blind Labor Day it was on the ground. Unfortunately, the west TX winds got it despite his best efforts to anchor. He learned a lesson - you cannot over build the anchoring system as the blind is now firewood material. ANCHOR ANCHOR ANCHOR.

First of all, I suggest the use of a center anchor - a 5 or 6 foot long screw-in earth anchor, which is then attached to a come-a-long that is attached to the bottom of the blind with chain. That way everytime you are at the lease you can verify that the system is tight - if it is not, just give the winch a little tightening.

Second, anchor down all four corners with guy wires attached to trees or T-posts. If you are using T-posts, drive them in at an angle.

Third, drive T-posts in at an angle on every corner right next to the legs of the blind. Wire the legs of the blind to the T-posts.

Fourth, put the legs on top of cement pads so they dont sink into the ground.

          Good luck.

we have a 8x4 20ft blind on a tall knoll with lots of wind.. we augered a anchor underneath and used a cable reaching to the base of the blind and it does pretty well some swaying in the bad stuff but nothing serious

I have a 6x6 blind 12 ft to the floor setting on top of a hill and it has with stood 70 mph plus winds no problem. I took a 12 inch auger bit 4 ft in the ground on each corner and filled full of concrete and bolted the blind down

Amen, I had mine anchor but with cheap cable not chain and it blow over. Use chain or you will be sorry and put a tpost on each leg also. I hunt in the panhandle and 50 mpg winds are common.
