GUN WEEK INTERVIEW with Jim Zumbo. Good reading

GUNWEEK RELEASED this Interview with Jim Zumbo from Wyoming.

"I am an idiot. I am ignorant. My words came back to destroy my career."

This was the observation of out door legend Jim Zumbo of Wyoming.

"I did it to myself" "... I have nobody to blame"

    Zumbo went on to say....

"When the gun community acts and decides to take on an issue, this is proof positive they can make it work. I am proud of them". He found out the hard way.

"They got me" "I used the word " ban " which I should never have used and I used the word "terrorist" which I should never have used."

He offered a public apology to GUNWEEK readers and on the Ted Nugent Internet forum.

Said to GUNWEEK the experience has humbled him.

Said he hopes to launch a new career as a defender of the 2nd Amendment...

Also last week, Anti gun US Senator Chuck Schumler D- NY Read Zumbo's recent statements into the Congressional Record(CR) in attempt to pass a gun control bill.

I can't recall anything like this. some of you might know Jim & I go back to when he was a free Lance writing at OWAA Conventions. When he told me he bowhunted he became friend and i tried to help him as he got started in writing.

I was far too harsh on Jim, as he should have known lot better and I know is is deeply hurt and very contrite. Some have suggested it was the case of too many beers while posting.

Now I think no body is mad at Jim They are mad at the comment his made. And the hurt he caused.

Jim is a good guy and he is still welcome at my camp fire and ranch.

While I try to be a Christian, I am not a very good one, and I have calmed down enough to forgive him and wish him well.

The tragic event took place in a day or two and shows that the Internet Not the Print Media or Magazines or even TV is the real power NOW and woe is he who forgets how fast bad news travels.

When I was Young (years ago) they used to say bad news like a train wreck or plane crash travels faster than the speed of sound.

Jim can still write under a pseudonym/ false name and sell stories to magazines on hunting

That was the reason everyone was so angry. That is why Remington dropped him. All that is needed is one Gun Control Bill to pass and then they begin trying to take guns that are not Assault Weapons. They will word as Automatic weapons and start looking at other Automatic Rifles and Shotguns. Look at what that Senator did. He basically did that to say "Look even one of there own doesnt approve of these" Now it is public record, read before the Senate. His statment that will be around for all Recorded History thanks to the Honorable Senator Chuck Schumler a Democrat from NY and could possibly be used to set the tone for future gun control bills. Because thats how they operate. So if you believe what he said doesnt affect you or was insignificant, you have no reason complain when you cant go out and purchase a new Bennelli or you can no longer find the 12 round magazine for your legally purchased handgun. Because it gets labled as an automatic weapon and thus a Dangerous weapon. They tried to take the automatic rifles one year also (ie..BAR ) that is how it got started. Right after the ban of assault Rifles. I may not agree with some of the things Ol' GW has done but I have never felt that my right to bear arms were ever in jepordy. Just food for thought.

Why doesn't the gun community go after Chucky like we did Jim?

Heartfelt apology. It will be interesting how he spends the rest of his career. I hope that he does a 180 and does some shows hunting w/ black rifles and does some PR w/ NRA.

A good start for Mr. Zumbo might be for him to take those politicians to task who used his comments to support their own gun-control agendas. And like Forrest Gump, "That's all I got to say about that......"

Jim made the big mistake of being a big name that verbalized in a poor way what many very pro-hunting, pro-gun advocates quietly think, that is that certain 'assault' type weapons have no place in the private sector and should be restricted to the military. The only fault with that thinking is that the bad guys will always find a way to get them....end result is any ban as to distribution is of no practical value....and I doubt very seriously that any of the world's militaries are going to get together and 'ban' the weapons. As with many topics, long range thinking should occur before short range talking...I do feel his apology is sincere and hope he can maintain a voice in the outdoor community....

"Ol' GW" has stated publicly that he would sign a new assault weapons ban. Think of him as Hillary light.

Yes he did, but with a Republican House and Senate and he knew good and well one would never cross his desk to sign. He said it because for some gun control is not an election issue unless there is a pending bill/measure and GW(GOP) wanted the D's to push for an assault gun ban to make it an election issue.
