    Another 7.3 question...fuel leak. ***UPDATE-FIXED***

Okay, my '02 7.3 has started the fuel filter drain leak that they all eventually get with the new diesel fuel.

My question is does anybody know a good place to get the new o-rings? The Ford house wants like $45 for the whole drain assembly when all I need is a couple of o-rings. The rings are 1/2"OD X 1/4"ID X 1/8" thick, standard #202 I think. They have to be oil/solvent resistant, I understand that Viton (?) are the best?

Any ideas without having to buy the whole assembly or paying $10 shipping for two little o-rings?
If I didn't think my opinion was right, then it wouldn't be my opinion. So, any other opinion must be wrong, therefore stupid.

I would try the local bearing houses first, but if not you should call American Packing and Gasket in Houston...800-888-5223. I looked and they have them in their catalog.

TSC, Fastenal, any tractor distributer with a parts house.

I would find an IH dealer in your area. Same motor....same parts......half the price.
      Ultramatic Feeders

We're paratroopers, Lieutenant. We're supposed to be surrounded......

Yeah, sounds like a pretty standard o-ring and almost any bearing/packing company would have them...heck, they probably even have them at NAPA's and O'Reillys...

That would be correct. I use my AC oring assortment for all oils, fuels and coolants. replaced many a 7.3 HP orings with never a problem. You do not need the fitting, just an oring

Thanks, I'll check those places. Got a TSC Blue Book out in the truck I'll flip through in a few.

Anybody else? I know dadgum well I'm not the only one here that has this problem.

Never had that problem with my 02 yet. HPOP leak only. Good information for when It does start to leak.

Simple repair but in a real tricky spot. Get an engine hoist and hang by your heels upside down.

IIRC, when I replaced mine I also swapped the valve as the plastic had become somewhat brittle. I didn't want a failure of the valve if I spent the time to replace the seals.

And if you have FFS (Fat Finger Syndrome) it's going to take some time to replace them. They sure are in an tough place.

Have you tried www.thedieselstop.com for a source?

First off, thanks jbuk for the offer! I saw it after the fact.

I found the o-rings on an eBay store called oringsandmore. I got a pack of 25 of the Vitron Size 202 rings for $3.50 and $2.00 shipping. Ordered on a Friday and arrived on Monday. So I have plenty if anybody needs a couple!

To repace them you basically need nimble fingers and a #20 torx. Remove the four torx bolts and remove the valve. Take out the two old orings and replace with the new. Make sure everything is clean and replace the valve.

It's a one hour, no beer...hour and a half, two beer...two hour, four beer job. It's not difficult, but it is hard to get to.

Again, if anybody needs a couple of the orings just let me know!
